Requirements · Ubuntu, Debian or Fedora. Other distributions can use the WireGuard or OpenVPN config files.
Install and connect
- 1Buy a plan with your TVPN balance.
- 2In the dashboard, open Downloads and save the .deb package for Ubuntu or Debian, or the .rpm package for Fedora.
- 3Install the package with your system package manager (this needs sudo).
- 4Run the TVPN login command in a terminal and enter your email and password.
- 5List the available locations and pick a country or city.
- 6Run the connect command and check the status output.
Two ways to connect
The command-line app handles sign-in, server choice, protocol switching and the kill switch. Run it with the help flag to see every command and option.
If you would rather not install anything, the dashboard can generate a WireGuard config for wg-quick or an .ovpn file for OpenVPN and NetworkManager. Each file is tied to one server, so download a new one when you want another location.
Settings we suggest
Turn on the kill switch in the app if the machine runs unattended, for example a home server pulling updates. It blocks traffic outside the tunnel until the connection is back.
When you use config files, keep the DNS line that points to the TVPN resolver. Removing it sends DNS queries to your ISP even while the tunnel is up.
Common problems
On systems with systemd-resolved, DNS sometimes keeps using the old server after connecting. Install the resolvconf compatibility package or let NetworkManager import the config so DNS is updated with the tunnel.
If WireGuard reports a missing kernel module, your kernel is probably older than the one your distribution currently ships. Update the system or install the wireguard-tools package from your distribution.
