When do you need a VPN
Where a VPN helps
On public Wi-Fi in cafes, airports or hotels, the network owner and other people on it can try to watch traffic. A VPN encrypts everything between your device and the TVPN server, so they only see that you are connected to TVPN. Your internet provider at home sees the same thing.
A VPN also helps when you are abroad and need services from home, or when you want sites to see a server's IP address instead of your own.
What a VPN does not do
It does not make you anonymous to sites you log in to. Once you sign in, that site knows it is you, whatever IP address it sees. It also does not stop malware you install yourself, so a VPN is not a replacement for keeping your system updated and being careful with downloads.
Some countries restrict or ban VPN use, so check the local rules before you connect there. Using a VPN does not make illegal activity legal.
Questions
Do I need a VPN at home?
It depends on what you want. At home your internet provider can see which sites you visit, and a VPN hides that from them. If that does not matter to you, the main reasons to use one are public Wi-Fi and reaching services in other countries.
Is my bank login safe without a VPN?
Banking sites already use HTTPS, which encrypts the page itself. A VPN adds another layer on public Wi-Fi and hides which sites you visit from the network owner. If your bank's app blocks VPN connections, exclude it with split tunneling.
Can a VPN get every streaming service working in another country?
We cannot promise that. Some services limit traffic from VPN servers, and their rules change. You can connect to a server in the country you need and see if it works, and try another server in the same country if it does not.
Can I stay connected all day?
Yes. There are no data caps or speed limits, so you can leave TVPN on. If an app does not work well with the VPN, add it to split tunneling instead of turning the VPN off.
