How to choose a server location

Why the location matters

Your traffic travels from your device to the TVPN server before it reaches the site you open. The farther away that server is, the longer each request takes, so a distant server adds delay even on a fast connection.

The location also decides which country websites see. A site reads the IP address of the TVPN server, not yours, so it treats you as a visitor from the country where that server is.

Which server to pick

For everyday browsing and the best speed, connect to the city closest to you. If you need a site or service that only works in one country, pick a server in that country. When you travel abroad, a server in your home country lets you reach your usual banking and local services the way you do at home.

Keep in mind that some sites limit traffic from VPN servers, so a server in the right country does not guarantee that every service will open.

Dedicated IP countries and switching

Pro includes one dedicated IP, an address that only you use. You choose its country when you buy Pro, from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia.

Every plan can use all 62 cities in 44 countries. You can change servers in the app whenever you like, and there is no limit on how often you switch.

Questions

How many times can I change servers?

As many times as you want. Disconnect, pick another city in the app and connect again. Switching does not cost anything or use up your plan.

Which server is the fastest?

Usually the one closest to where you are. Shorter distance means less delay. If a nearby server feels slow, try another city in the same country or switch the protocol to WireGuard.

Why is one server faster than another?

Distance is the main reason. The route your internet provider uses to reach that country and how many people are on the server at that moment also make a difference, so speed can change through the day.

The country I need is not on the list. What can I do?

Log in and send a request from the Support tab in the dashboard. You can do this even without a plan. We look at these requests when deciding where to add servers.
