Before you leave
Set up TVPN at home. The apps are available from your dashboard after you buy a plan, so buy and install before you go, while your connection is reliable.
Sign in on each device you are taking, and connect once to make sure it works. Each plan covers several devices at once, so a phone, a laptop and a tablet can all be protected.
- Buy a plan and open the download section in your dashboard
- Install the app on each device and sign in with your email and password
- Turn on the kill switch in Settings > Connection > Kill switch
Hotel and airport Wi-Fi
Many hotel and airport networks are open or share one password with everyone. Connect to TVPN as soon as you are online, so the traffic from your apps is encrypted.
Some networks show a sign-in page first. Accept the network's page without the VPN, then connect to TVPN. If it will not connect, switch the protocol to OpenVPN TCP.
Using services from home
Banking apps, government sites and some local services may block or question logins from foreign IP addresses. Connect to a server in your home country and you appear to be at home.
If a service checks your device closely, use the same server each time. Pro includes a dedicated IP in one of 10 countries, which gives you the same address on every trip.
Local laws
Some countries restrict or ban VPN use. Check the rules of the country you are visiting before you go, and follow them.
If VPN traffic is filtered where you are, OpenVPN TCP sometimes connects when other protocols do not. We cannot guarantee a connection on every network.
